How to clean and care for gold jewelry
Our pieces are made in 18K gold-plated and waterproof stainless steel, often finished with freshwater pearl or mother-of-pearl. With a few minutes of care they keep their shine for years. Here is the routine we recommend.
The everyday routine
1. Wipe after every wear
Body oils, perfume and sunscreen are the main causes of dullness. A soft, dry microfibre cloth after each wear removes them before they build up.
2. Wash gently, only when needed
For a deeper clean, use lukewarm water with a drop of mild, dye-free dish soap. Soak gold-plated or stainless steel pieces for a minute, brush lightly with a soft baby toothbrush around links and settings, then rinse in clean water.
3. Dry completely before storing
Pat dry with a lint-free cloth and leave the piece to air-dry fully. Trapped moisture in clasps and chain links is what leads to tarnish and discoloration.
4. Store pieces separately
Keep each piece in its own pouch or a lined compartment, away from heat and direct sunlight. Chains tangle and scratch each other when stored loose together.
What to avoid
- Perfume, hairspray, lotion and self-tanner — apply them first and let them dry before putting jewelry on.
- Chlorinated pools, hot tubs and salt water.
- Household cleaners, bleach, acetone and alcohol-based products.
- Ultrasonic cleaners and abrasive polishing cloths on gold-plated pieces — they wear the plating down.
- Showering and sleeping in delicate chains and pearl pieces.
Care by material
- 18K gold-plated
- The plating is a thin layer over a base metal. Clean with mild soapy water and a soft cloth only, never polish or scrub, and remove before swimming or working out.
- Stainless steel
- The most durable option and water-resistant. Warm soapy water and a soft brush are enough; dry fully to prevent water spots.
- Freshwater pearl & mother-of-pearl
- Porous and soft. Never soak them. Wipe with a slightly damp cloth, then a dry one, and always put pearls on last.
